Giving Your Child Their Own Tablet — Without Handing Over Your Account

Until now, a child using Mzansi Academy Kids was using their parent's account. That works on the couch next to you. It works less well when the tablet lives in the child's room or at a grandparent's house, signed in as you — with your subscription, your family invite code and your account settings one tap away.

So children can now sign in on their own device. On the tablet, your child taps "This is my tablet" and types a grown-up's email address. Then nothing happens until that grown-up opens their own Mzansi Academy Kids app, sees the request with a short pairing code, checks it matches the one on the tablet, and chooses which child the device is for.

We deliberately did not build this around an email link. A link in an email is one forwarded message, one shared inbox or one glance over a shoulder away from a session on your child's account — and a link cannot ask you which of your children the tablet belongs to. Approving inside your own signed-in app answers both problems.

The session the tablet receives is a learner session, not a copy of yours. It can open lessons, stories and your child's own progress. It cannot reach billing, family settings, other children or anything that changes your account. That boundary is enforced on our servers, not by hiding buttons.

You stay in charge from More → Children's devices. Every paired device is listed there, and signing one out takes effect immediately. Signing in on your own phone does not sign your child's tablet out.

If your child uses your phone instead, Kids Mode is the lighter option: tap Kids Mode and hand it over. To come back, press and hold for three seconds, then enter your birth year. That is a gate against curious fingers rather than a lock — which is exactly why a child's own device is the better choice for everyday use.
